Desktop publishing (abbreviated DTP) is the method of recreating a document in a certain layout to be used mainly for printing. This technology allows individuals, businesses, and other organizations to self-publish a wide range of printed matter. The art of DTP combines the technology and artistic skills to create the targeted documents from scratch using graphics, charts, tables and text, in order to produce a unique output.

DTP was not limited to creating layouts from scratch in one language but extended to be used as a tool of presenting a perfect output for translated documents. Multi-lingual companies and organizations tend to produce their documents in more than one language targeting a wide range of audiences around the world. For consistency and professional outlook of these companies and organizations, DTP has occupied a very important role in re-using the same design, layout and graphics to produce the same document, as a carbon-copy in all languages.

The DTP process may entitle the use of one or more application, according to the needs of each document. There are many applications that are widely being used for DTP, the most prominent of which is the Adobe Family (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) among many others.

At Day Translations, we are proud to always offer our client a carbon-copy of their original documents in the translated version, where applicable, without charging for additional DTP Fees. Most of our translators and our quality assurance managers have the basics of DTP skills, allowing them to produce the perfect document.

However, for some documents, a DTP Specialist is needed in order to make sure that the final output is just as perfect. In these situations, we may ask our client if they need a DTP process to be included after translation.
